Think the BBB folks would tell you a dedicated server of it's own. Ubuntu flavored ... I did try it once on CentOS ... uhhhh, stick with what they recommend!

Although they "can" be on the same server, it should be on a separate server specifically for this purpose. This is extra important if you are already having performance issues with the single VPS for Moodle and DB.
Also look into something cloud based as BBB can require a server with higher specifications (see docs) depending on the amount of concurrent students. The cost of the VPS could be more than some licences of a cloud service and you also then don't have to manage any extra infrastructure.
