I changed the name of the Sites Announcements forum in one of our sites (using the Main Menu block) and it seems to be working fine for me. I see the new name when adding a new post, and also in the app (you might need to perform a Pull To Refresh in the app to update it). I'm using the latest Moodle version, maybe it was fixed in a later version than the one you're using.
