error using forums in moodle 3.8.3

Hello,

We are using moodle 3.8.3 LAE version, PHP 7.2.31 and MySQL 5.7.30

We are running a summer course in this instance of Moodle and several users reported the error message below.

The trigger for this error is using the forums. If you submit a new forum topic, go back and edit that topic and then save, this error will appear. You have to log out/in to clear the error.

Also, we have anonymous posts to forums turned on. We turned it off - default - but the problem still happens.

Exception - Argument 34 passed to mod_forum\local\entities\forum::__construct() must be of the type integer, null given, called in [dirroot]/mod/forum/classes/local/factories/entity.php on line 108

Did you ever find a more permanent solution to this issue? We are having the same problem on our Moodle 3.8.3 environment.

Hi Leslie, we decided to stop using the recent activity block.

If a new code release becomes available with a fix we'll try that. But for now, we're just not using that block.

Same issue. Are you saying if you disable the block in the admin settings then this error doesn’t occur? What about courses that might be using the block now that courses are in full swing?

The recent activity block was the cause of the issue and after removing it the errors went away.

We were able to disable that block and remove it from all courses.

Also, we are using a liberal arts edition of Moodle found here: https://cme.clamp-it.org/
