I am helping a colleague who is teaching a UK level 3 BTEC qualification that has a difficult grading structure; I'm trying to get their gradebook setup so that it calculates grades automatically based on assignment marking. Using moodle 3.7 (soon to be moodle 3.9).
The qualification is made up of multiple units, each unit will have 1 assignment which is graded on a 4-point scale: Fail-Pass-Merit-Distinction. We've set up grading categories in the gradebook for each unit and since each unit will only have 1 marked assignment we've used weighted mean because within the unit the aggregation doesn't matter.
Trying to work out the aggregation method for the different units to give an overall course grade. This is complicated by the fact that the units are not equally weighted and in addition, students may pick certain units to give an 'extended certificate' qualification, or certain unit combinations to give a 'diploma' or certain unit combinations to give an 'extended diploma' i.e. not all students will do all units or all the same units. The qualification's guidance gives a table where units of different weightings carry different points; points are then added up to give course outcome, here's the guidance:
Points available for each unit, subject to its GLH classification (weighting):
Points available for three possible qualification types, and the grades that would be issued accordingly:
I am just looking for some pointers about how to set up the gradebook and aggregation method. I have done some setups before but this is by far the most complicated and I'm feeling lost. Any help would be appreciated.
