i know it's not quite Moodle. However, the totara version I was working with (or am working with, a year later), is totara 12, apparently based upon Moodle 3.3.9 (yikes!)

in the end, in this particular case we ended up exporting / importing courses.... however, in a new (also totara) situation, this cannot be done easily....
IF i somehow find a way to revert from totara to Moodle, I'll place it here... but I guess it's not gonna work
