Forgotten your username or password not working

Version: Moodle 3.8.3+ (Build: 20200607)

OS: Centos 7


When trying to use "Forgotten your username or password?" feature, entering either username or email address, no emails ever arrived, I checked the server's mail log, it did not attempt to send it, I checked apache logs, I can see that the form was accessed and it did not give any errors.

I built  moodle without errors during the installation, but why this feature is not working, anything that I missed?

Cron Job set up?

There is a task ..

\message_email\task\send_email_task                0 22 * * * *

That cron job is running under Site Administration -> Server -> Tasks -> Scheduled Task and I can see the Task logs that it is running on it's intended schedule. I run the task manually but I have not gotten any message still.

But my question is, for that forgotten your username or password feature, isn't that it should email the requester real-time?

Did you figure this out ever? I have a new 3.8.3+ install that is having the same issue. SMTP test send works great. Password reset not being sent.
