Grading

Grading

Hi

I've set up a rubric and marking guide, not too sure which one to use yet but what I'm mainly looking at is: is there any way that if there's a score of '0' anywhere in the marking that it becomes an automatic fail.

You see, in our marking if somebody scores a 0 score, they fail. I do also want to retain the pass mark for example it's out of 32 but the passmark is 22.

Any help or workarounds for this?

Thanks

I think this is what you are looking for:
1. Navigate to the course
2. Select the Gradebook Setup link
3. Select the Letters link; adjust the default values as needed.
a. Select the Override site defaults checkbox
b. Change Grade letter 1 = Pass ≥22.0
c. Change Grade letter 2 Fail-Retake Required < 21.0
d. Select the Save changes button.

2. Select Gradebook setup
3. Select Course grade setting
4. Change Grade item settings>Grade display type = letter
5. Change User report>Show Grade = default (Show)
6. Change User report>Show letter grade = show
7. Select Save

Thanks for your support smile

However, I think I might have got things mixed up! I do think this is the assignment activity I need help with.

I have an assignment set up with a marking guide/rubric (please advise which would be better to do this) but if the assessor scores a '0' within the marking, I'd like it to make the assignment a 'fail' even if they went over the pass mark.

Currently, the pass mark is 22 out of 32. Each 'criterion' is worth 2 points.

It may be worth adding as well, that I have another 3 assignment activities within the course, again with different criteria, scoring and pass marks.

I hope that explains things better.

Thanks

Each Activity can have a Grade to pass value. that value is linked to the Course's Gradebook.
If you Edit Assignment, you can set the Grade to pass value as 22.
You will also want to set your Activity completion = Require grade.

Thanks I have done that now but the '0' score isn't covered in these responses.
If a student scores a '0' I want it to fail irrespective of the total number of scores reaching the pass value. Can this be done?
Thanks

Within the Assignment activity there is only one Grade value. Your only other option would be to limited the attempts on the Submission settings to = 1. Students who receive zero could not reattempt and therefore fail. But limiting attempts, would apply to all student submissions.
or manually lock those students submissions when the grade is zero.
