You might be able to set restrictions to hide the quiz if it is failed and the lesson is not complete and only show the lesson if the quiz is failed, then the quiz would disappear after failure and the lesson would appear. Completion of the lesson would show the quiz again. Maybe. I haven't tried it but I think it should work.
