get logged one way while students using the App interface who click on the same URL to read the same article get logged in a different way
As Tim says, both App and Web interface should lead to a single event such as \mod_url\event\course_module_viewed that gets logged. The web service function call log is an extra thing (an analogy to the webserver's access_log).
