HTTP ERROR 500 After Upgrade

HTTP ERROR 500 After Upgrade

Greetings,

I have just upgraded from version 3.6.5 to version 3.8.2, by following step-by-step the upgrade guide

I find myself, now at the end of the upgrade (e.g. after updating the plugins and the DB), with an HTTP Error 500, if I try to approach the login page.

No errors are visibile within the Apache error.log file.

The server hosting the Moodle site is an Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS.

The PHP (major) version is 7.2

Do you have any suggestions for me?

Thank you.

It's *highly* unlikely that an error 500 would not be logged. So... you're looking at the wrong log file or logging is broken. I would fix that first and Error 500 tells you nothing useful by itself.

I would rollback the upgrade by reverting to backups and then attempt one step at a time. The 500 error givesvery little information and without errors reported, hard to know where to start.
Others may have better ideas.

I confirm as stated by James Steerpike.

The error.log files is correct...in the right path /var/log/apache2.

I can see only the following within the access.log file:

[24/Apr/2020:09:55:02 +0200] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 303 3460 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/81.0.4044.122 Safari/537.36"
212.31.225.30 - - [24/Apr/2020:09:55:02 +0200] "GET /login/index.php HTTP/1.1" 500 324 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/81.0.4044.122 Safari/537.36"

The error.log is empty

Thanks.
