AICC Package

AICC Package

I'm working with a vendor to implement an AICC formatted package.  I've reviewed their package and compared it to the AICC standards and can't get it to work.  Does anyone have a working AICC package I could review?

Additional Info:
I'm testing in both 1.53+ and 1.6.  My server config is Win2003, IIS 6.0, PHP 5 and MySQL 4

Thanks in advance for any assistance

Re: AICC Package

I have not been able to get any AICC module imported into Moodle, even though my packages have passed the tests in AICC's certification/testing tool.

I always get the error:
Fatal error: Cannot access empty property in C:\moodle\moodle\mod\scorm\lib.php on line 570

I posted about this earlier and got no replies.  I don't get the feeling a lot of moodlers use AICC.

I'm using a slightly different config: 1.53+ Win2003, appache

Perhaps someone else will reply!

Re: AICC Package

Hi Todd,
It seems as though most are going the SCORM route...which I personally perfer.  However, a vendor I am working with only uses AICC packages.  I don't get a fatal error, just a note the that files can't be displayed.  I had contacted Bobo (last summer) who had first developed this module, and he felt the file should work.  I still have not had any luck.

Re: AICC Package

Todd,

I have been having the same problem and here is what I found. Your AICC package must contain an AICC folder with the 4 AICC Course Structure files within it. It would look like this:

 aicc (this is a folder)
......*.au (this is a file)
......*.des (file)
......*.crs (file)
......*.cst (file)

However, I then experience the other error listed in this post. That error, is caused, on my system at least, by the the folder that contains the MySQL database being Read Only. I have not been able to make this folder writable to anyone but the admin. Even when I set the property by right-clicking, it goes back to read-only.

I think that this would solve the issue of the AICC courses not working. If you are able to find a way to set the folders from MySQL to writable please let me know. I am not sure how else to do it without right-clicking.

Thanks.

Re: AICC Package

Tim,

Was not aware that the files must be in a folder called AICC.  I will try it and see about the read only issue you are describing.

Thanks much,

Todd

Re: AICC Package

I'm using Moodle 1.5.3+ and have had no trouble uploading and launching AICC content created with Articulate Presenter. The final product is simple and only tracks time, completion, grades, etc.

Re: AICC Package

Jamie,

I'm using Moodle 1.5.3 on Win2k3 running Apache 2.0, PHP 5.0 and MySQL 5.0.

I'm attempting to add a SCORM activity to a course.  I select the AICC .zip file - containing the 4 required files: .au, .crs, .cst and .des file.

When I save the changes to the activity, I get the following error:

Fatal error: Cannot access empty property in C:\moodle\moodle\mod\scorm\lib.php on line 570

Any idea on what is causing this problem? Can you post a sample of a package you've gotten to run as a means of comparison?

Thanks in advance!

Re: AICC Package

I'm not sure if this will help...

I have published AICC courses using Articulate Presenter. One thing I noticed is that AICC required a URL to be specified as the launch path for the content. When using Moodle, I had to make this a "relative" path (in my case it was simply the name of the launch file "lms_index.html"). I did not attach a URL or any other path information.

Check your launch path, that may be the problem. Good luck.

Re: AICC Package

Jamie,

Thanks for the reply; unfortunately, now I'm getting a different error... When I specify a relative path, I get a "file cannot be found" error and specifying an absolute path yields the "Fatal error.... lib.php" that I mentioned in my original posting.

mixed

Can I confirm the contents of the AICC package you've succesfully launched from Moodle? I'm only including the 4 required descriptor files (.au, .crs, .cst and .des) as the content needs to reside on a remote server (which I suspect is the root of my problem, although this has not been confirmed yet).

I've successfully run the same package on other LMSs (i.e. Saba, NetLearning), so I believe my descriptor files are well-formed. If you would not mind, can you post a sample package that works for you? This way I can compare it against my descriptor files to see if there are any obvious discrepancies.

Thanks, in advance, for your help!

Best Regards,

Paula Lane

Re: AICC Package

Jamie - I work for a content company that is doing an AICC integration with a number of customers that are asking for the launch file/destination URL/point file. We have provided the 4 file types

CRS (Course File) AU (Assignable Unit File) DES (Descriptor File) CST (Course Structure File)

But don't have information on the launch file. Can you describe for me what this launch file is or point me to some information on it?

Thanks

Ross

Re: AICC Package

I've been having varied success with integrating AICC content onto our Moodle. Like Paula, we are trying to launch AICC content that is hosted remotely to Moodle.

See my recent post. One of the companies I've been working with believes the web_launch parameter may not be working. So, I've logged a bug for this. However, I am using v1.8 but this could have been a bug for some time if most people are using scorm as opposed to AICC mixed

I have recently spotted the pink resource not found error when the scorm setting 'Student skip content structure page' is set to First Access or Always. By setting it to Never it seemed to sort out the problem. (It generated another error but at least it was one step forward LOL!)

Would be happy to troubleshoot with others around these issues because it would be great to get to the bottom of them finally.

Re: AICC Package

The launch file is just the file you use to launch the aicc course - normally something like "index.htm" or "start.htm" You specify that in the .au descriptor file under the "file_name" heading

Re: AICC Package

I am new to AICC-HACP development. We need to host a course from a vendor who implemented HACP-binding. The vendor provided us with 4 files (.AU, CRA, CST and DES) for one of their sample courses and asked us to test if it works. I read some documentation and got a few things, but still I am not sure how I can just use these files to call their LMS and play the course in ours.  We are using ASP for our LMS here so how can I use these files to launch their course using ASP/ASP.net? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Ganesh,

this site is for discussing the LMS Moodle - which supports the use of AICC packages, we can't help you implement AICC within your ASP application.

You could install Moodle on your windows machine and use Moodle to connect to the AICC packages and then link to Moodle from your ASP LMS.

If you have some $$ for this you could implement Rusticis SCORM engine within your LMS which supports AICC packages too.

good luck!
