Today I tried having an alias/shortcut from Moodle to a zip file in Dropbox and while it worked, I was not able to get them synchronized (if I updated the file in dropbox, the Moodle alias/shortcut wasn't updated accordingly). In the end, I found this was due to two huge limitations with alias/shortcuts:
- They are only synchronized once a day. This is not ideal, as I think synchronization could be done quite more often. Bu anyway, ok, I can live with this one.
- This is the real bummer... Dropbox, equella and other repository plugins have this strange condition in their sync_reference() function:
And my question is... WHY? Why is the function limiting synchronization only to jpg, png and such type of files? I mean, I replaced 'web_image' by 'zip' and everything started working (meaning that if I update the .zip file in dropbox I finally get the updated version in Moodle).
I'm not sure if this happens with other repository plugins that do not implement the sync_reference() function too (for example, onedrive), but I'll try it tomorrow.
Should I open an issue for this in the tracker???
