Hi,

We are planning to implement eLearning for our students due to CORONAvirus holiday, one of the planned item is to create Moodle chat session for each course/week, students will login to Moodle as per their timetable and participate on the chat session with the instructor,.

The expected total number of chatters in different chat rooms will be around 3000 students per hour, number of chat rooms  created will be around 400 rooms, each room will have 40 to 100 students.

The servers specifications :

Web: 45CPUs 120GB RAM

DB: 30CPUS 120GB RAM

Based on the above numbers do you think the servers will handle the peak?

If not what is your suggestions?

Thanks

I would set up a dedicated IRC server for that. I know, giving the users organized in to their corresponding chat rooms need additional work. But Moodle being a web server is terribly inefficient as a chat server.
