Limit number of IP Addresses per User

Limit number of IP Addresses per User

We are using Moodle 3.7. We are looking for a way to limit the number of IP addresses that log into a single account to avoid people 'sharing' their account information without paying.  I've discovered this happening more and more through an intensive manuel process over the past 2 years even though we have a Terms of Service that is very direct about this being a no-no.  Anybody have any suggestions?

limiting by IP address is challenging - if your users are using a mobile device, they might end up connecting to your site with a range of IP adresses within a short time frame as they switch between wifi/mobile-data etc.

You might want to turn the limitconcurrentlogins setting on in auth > manage authentication - it should prevent people from being logged in with the same account at the same time.

then there are other things you can probably do around course design with activity completion rules - allowing users to only sit the quiz once etc.

hope that helps!
