I think that would be a great idea - I know that this kind of thing will be in 1.6 stats but to have it on a block would be nice too for non admins to see.

I disagree-the important thing is quality, not quantity. And besides, this may lead to the less popular courses becoming less popular rather than the other way around.

You are right. The quality is more important. However, since active learning starts with discussions, having poor discussions is an indicator of lack of quality of learning. I think the block may be bringing the results from especially discussion activities. The number of forums, students and discussions may be useful.
