Removing Grade Overview Report from drop down and profile page

Removing Grade Overview Report from drop down and profile page

Since we use Moodle for both formative and summative assignments, and for the summative assignments the grades may be moderated by exam committees which feed into our student record system but not to Moodle, we don't think there is any valid use case for people seeing the overview grade report that shows them the grades for all their courses.

Further, it's impossible to know whether academics set up the grades properly, so some may have weightings all wrong and formative ones not hidden from course totals and so on - since they take their grades only for the summative ones and upload them to the student records system before the moderation process.

We would therefore like to remove the grade overview report from both the user's drop down menu and their profile page. So in order to see their grades or a module they would access the user report from within a course and see only that course's grades, but there should be no overall report for them across all their courses.

We can't seem to get either to disappear, even though there is a capability of "viewoverviewreport" which we have set to forbidden for everyone, students, and autheticated users. Is this a bug?  can't really believe everyone with a back end system uses the Moodle grade book as their single source of truth for final grades, do they?

Is there some other way to remove these without hacking about in code/CSS?

To remove the Grades link from the User menu (below Profile), you would go to Site Administration / Appearance / Theme Settings - and there remove the Grades item from the "User menu items" field.

I don't know where you would be able to modify that area of the profile page from the admin settings.
