Hello Kirk,

Here are some screenshots. It may all seem complicated and confusing, but once you get the idea, it's actually quite simple.

These are the different contexts shown here:

  • System (i.e. site): Mount Orange School
    • Course category: Art and Media
      • Course: Psychology in Cinema
        • Quiz: Factual recall test
        • Quiz: Grammar help with your essays

The following screenshots are taken by an administrator or manager who sees all contexts by default. By default, a teacher would only see the course and quiz contexts.

Questions are always stored in categories (and subcategories) which are displayed in the question bank. As a teacher, you may use categories that are in a quiz context (normally the quiz context where questions are used) or in categories that are in the course context. It's a matter of preference or convenience, depending on what you do. Here, the teacher has placed his questions in categories that are in the course context.

The question bank is accessible via a quiz or via the course administration.

Accessing the Question bank via a quiz

Click on the quiz:

Click on the gear icon and select Question bank:

Select the "Categories" tab. The teacher sees the categories in the current Quiz context and all the categories in the Course context. Other quiz contexts are not displayed. The administrator or manager sees the categories in the Course Category context and in the System context. Note the content of the breadcrumb that reflects the fact that we accessed the Question bank via the "Factual recall test" quiz:

Note: If you visit the Mount Orange School website, you will realize that I have renamed certain categories. It is only for clarity.
