Hello im currently trying to upgrade my Moodle - now on latest stable 38. (coming from 3.7)

and got in to trouble when changing the mod directory into chmod 777 for ftp to upload new plugin versions. ( I do know the wget command, but thought this could work faster )

Now I get error 500 when loggin in. I got this working again when upgrading to newer version, but when I made same mistake ( apparently it mess the system up) I cant access all the sites. However calender and specific .php pages works.

Is it possible to run (force) an upgrade, even if there is non?
I cant seem to figure out why it is behaving like this. I have already tryied to give the chown 755 for the moodle directory but with no success.
