Having trouble getting the wonderful Fordson theme to work on your Moodle site running XAMPP on Windows? Especially when using XDEBUG? You are not alone.
This happens because Apache has a smaller default stack size of only 1 MB on Windows unlike on Linux where it is 8 MB. The crash is silent (segmentation fault / secgfaulting) when it runs out of stack space and there is no error message, Apache just stops and is restarted. The web browser gets no data and results in a blank page making it difficult to troubleshoot.
The only hint of what is going on can be found in Apache's error log file:
Parent: child process exited with status ... -- Restarting
To fix the problem, add the following lines to your Apache httpd-xampp.conf. This increases the ThreadStackSize to 8 megabyte:
Don't forget to restart Apache after saving this change.
May be applicable when using other advanced themes or WAMPs.
Hope you find this useful.
