I'm also batting with this new digital approach to issuing multifaceted badges that can reflect the complexity of real world education, knowledge competency, skill proficiency, etc.
As I continue to prototype my frameworks using Badges, I'm finding that those layers of completion (your examples of A&B or C&D) is moving into the Badgr platform. So the challenge is to understand the scope of the Badge and then the scope of how those Badges are conditionally grouped to form the various pathways.
