Creating compund filters

I have a dataform that contains assets which are associated with 4 distinct training sessions within a course, some assets will be tagged with multiple sessions if they are used in more than one session.

I have created filter for each of the distinct sessions, and created a view that uses this filter - this allows me to show the correct view (and therefore asset) to the correct students.

However - I then want to add in a subsidery filter option for them, to allow them to further filter the content - but, this subsidery filter doesn't work on the already filtered view. It just shows no records, no matter what I select, but it does work on an identical view if there isn't a filter already applied.

How can I get the subsidery filters to work. I have looked at the advanced filter option, but this looks too complex for the end user.

Thanks in advance.
