Hi Paul,
Back in 2003/4 I set up my first Moodle site on a Windows server for about 80 students. Two years later when I was going to have to renew my $erver license, (the price had almost doubled) I tried setting up a Linux server instead. With the aide of all the great forum users you'll find on here, I managed to get it up and working the way I wanted, after just a few days, maybe a week or so. On my shoestring classroom budget, it sure was nice to have those dollars to spend on equipment instead of server software. And, now Linux actually seems much easier to setup and use than what I remember about MS NT Server.
