Actually they do still have the yum alias available. Like you said I need to learn the new stuff anyway.
I've been using Remi's products since you recommended them a few years ago. CentOS 8 uses PHP 7.2 as the native version but I'm using 7.3. I noticed that they're up to PHP 7.4 but I'll leave that for another day.
I also made the jump from MariaDB 5.5 to 10.3 which isn't as big of a jump as it sounds.
There were some things to learn along the way but everything seems to be running now. To infinity and beyond!
