The only reason that I'm anxious to move to 8 is for security. The CentOS enterprise support model means that they tend to freeze certain aspects of the system. For instance CentOS 7 does not officially include PHP 7.3 and the most recent version of Apache available is 2.4.6 which has some security issues. I was able to remedy my PHP needs using Remi's repository but I haven't found an analog that provides current Apache binaries. CentOS 8 still only supports PHP 7.2 but the included Apache build is 2.4.37 which is still older than the current release 2.4.41. If I have to build and test my own Apache installation, I may as well jump into 8 at the same time.
