Single Simple Discussion - Future plans for groups

We have a client who's requirement is to see all posts upfront on a single page i.e. not a list of topics and then having to go into each topic. For this reason they chose Simple Single Discussion.
They used HSU Forum (open forums) before which worked brilliantly for this requirement, but must now move to Moodle vanilla features due to mobile implementation at their college.

Their second requirement is groups. They have groups within groupings.

Since Single Simple Discussion does not implement groups, I want to enquire if the current front end settings for this that's available during activity setup will remain there? I want to ensure the settings feature won't be removed on the UI for future versions.

We are planning to implement code for the client to just enforce the posts' display and posting per group. The relevant setting from the UI already seems to save in the db, it's just not applied during display and posting.

Can someone advise on the future plans for Single Simple Discussion.
We're upgrading the client from 3.5 to 3.7.x
