I just double checked and it does work (both using an Android device and an iOS device). Which version of Moodle and Moodle App are you using? Please revise your app settings ('Notifications preferences' as well as 'Messages preferences')

After i updated from moodle 3.6 to 3.7 the notifications for group messages suddenly worked smile
