Hi All,

We were wondering if it's possible to create an instructions page where student have to read before being able to view the courses they are assigned too.

Simply once the user has registered and logged into the Moodle LMS. They will be presented with a instructions page which explains to them how the system works and how to navigate about it (we don't want to use the tour guide). Once they have read the instructions they simply click accept/next and they will now be able to see the course they're assigned too.

Is there a method of doing this?

One way to accomplish this (depends how many courses are in your system and how many topics are in your course) is have a Page or URL Resource at the top of each course that links to this document of instructions. Then beneath it, a Choice Activity with only one choice in it - an agreement Statement. Set the Activity Completion to "Student must make a choice."

You can then restrict every section in the course to be hidden until the Choice Activity is marked complete.

This way, students only see the one activity when they enter the course until the Agreement is completed.

Do you know if this can be modified to appear in each course (so they have to agree to the statement per-course, like agreeing to a course syllabus? Or does it only work at the site level (once and done?)

Yes you can enable the terms and condition checkbox in signup. You can make this field required, and give a link of the term and condition page here. make a term and condition page using the static page plugin.

What if the student accounts are already created, and the student is just logging in for the first time, will this method above still work?

Yes , if you make this field required, students who are logging in into the system after addition of this field, will be redirected to the profile page to fill this field. They can't skip this.
