Adding Text Editor preferences to User preferences

I am an Admin for my site and want to change my personal text editor to Plain Text so I can use Markdown formatting for creating pages.

However, I want the text editor settings to remain with Atto for all other users. (So I don't want to change the default order of text editors).

However, I can't access the Text Editor preferences in my User Settings:

I would like to add them to the user preferences in the Theme settings:

However, I don't know what the correct custom user menu item string is to put in here in order to unlock the text editor preference settings for my site's users.

I have researched this challenge for quite a while on the moodle forums, and found this related thread, but couldn't find an answer.

It would be extremely helpful to have a list of possible options in the relevant documentation page.

Does anyone know what is the correct string to add in order to unlock the text editor preference option for my user settings? Thanks a lot!

Nothing to do with the theme. In reading the fine documentation -> https://docs.moodle.org/35/en/Text_editor#Using_a_text_editor it states "If more than one text editor is enabled, users can select their preferred editor via their preferences page in the user menu". Therefore ensure that more than one is enabled.

Hei Gareth, thanks for your reply. Sadly, that doesn't solve it. I have multiple text editors enabled in my site's settings, but the option to switch does not show up.

The "eye" symbol shows that an editor is enabled. I have both Atto and Plain text area enabled, but our user profiles are lacking the option of switching between them (as described above).

Also additionally activating TinyMCE HTML editor does not change this.

The text editor preferences is already visible in the User Preferences page, but if you want a direct link to it in your user menu, try this:

Choose Editor|/user/editor.php|t/preferences

That's awesome, thanks a lot! For me it isn't visible in the User Preference page, but with your line of code I can add it at least to the user drop-down menu.

Do you know where to add it so it appears on the User Preference page instead of the drop-down?

I’m fairly sure that there is no setting for whether it appears on the User Preferences page - I use and manage a lot of sites and it’s always been on that page without me having to add it. Can you check it using a standard theme?

I’ve just double checked - if only one editor is enabled, the link is not shown on the User Preferences page. If any two or more are enabled, the link is shown.

I can't change the Theme we're currently using with my permissions. Thanks for checking, in any case! I assumed it's an issue with the Theme, but I was hoping there was a way to switch it on still.

Any idea of how to do that?

As mentioned in the initial post, we're using:
