MariaDB 10.4.6 was released yesterday. Is it fully compatible with Moodle 3.6.x and 3.7? The 3.7 release notes just say "Latest" version, but 10.3 had issues with Moodle when it was released.
MariaDB 10.4 is (as far as I know) the equivalent of MySQL 8.
Again as far as I know, both 3.6 and 3.7 are compatible with MySQL 8. However, whenever there's a new version of server software the only way to be sure (or more sure, anyway) is to run the unit tests and acceptance tests and see what happens.

Did anyone already test MariaDB 10.4+ (today 10.4.12) w/ Moodle using what suggested by Howard?

We have been running 10.4.x (currently running 10.4.12) since our Moodle 3.8 update in late December. No issues so far.
