Hey guys, I could really use your help here. I’ve been trying to solve this myself, but this is all beyond my abilities.
I teach at a university in China. I recently bought a Synology Diskstation, and while playing around with all the features, I learned about Moodle. The more I researched about this platform, the more excited I got- I took a few MOOCs when I in college and I would love to set one up for my students. I installed Moodle on my Synology DS and began to construct my site.
However, my moodle cannot be accessed outside of my home network. I’m not sure the exact cause, but I think it’s a combination of the Chinese firewall, and/or the fact that I do not have a static IP address. (I requested a static IP from my internet provider, but they wouldn’t give me one)
So when I try to access http://(my ip address)/moodle from an outside source, I just get an error message.
I’ve tried contacting Synology about this directly, but the main headquarters in the US had no idea what to do. So I got in touch with the company within China, and they gave me a few suggestions but eventually said it was too much trouble to bother with.
I’m not super tech-savvy, so I tried to go as far as I could. Searching around, I heard signing up for a service like noip.com and port forwarding it to the moodle site is the basic recommendation, but either I’m doing it wrong or it just won’t work.
I’ve spent about 3 full days on this so far and I just can’t figure out how to solve this problem. Would someone mind helping me out please?
