We are using Moodle 3.5.4 hosted externally, using the Essential theme. We use the Course Overview on Campus block, which gives a drop-down menu of all semesters in Moodle
We keep all categories closed by default, and allow instructors to see hidden categories. Students are able to see their classes, once the instructor has made it available
We had some issues while loading courses for the next term, and because I didn't want faculty making changes that might well get deleted, I removed instructors from the list of roles allowed to see hidden categories from the specific category the courses were in. Once the course issue was fixed by our hosting company, I added instructors back to the list of roles allowed to view hidden categories.
Here's the problem. Instructors cannot see that category, even though the permissions are set to allow it. I made the category visible, and still not able to see the category. I enrolled myself as an instructor in one of the courses, and I can see the category. If I impersonate the real instructor of that class, I cannot.
I have tried removing and re-adding the permissions again, in case "jiggling the switch" would help, I've checked permissions of the categories above and below in the hierarchy, I've checked the permissions for the instructor role in the Define roles area. I've checked the block settings for the course overview block. Our hosting company is also looking, but cannot find anything.
I'm stuck, and I need to get faculty into this category.
