I don´t have much knowledge of CSS so don´t know how to edit the boxes to make the images fit! I have no idea how to fix this.
I just want my students to be able to drag and drop the images into the correct location.

In the the thread that you linked to, the final solution was to make the theme designer aware of the issue and they were able to provide a solution for that theme.
Which theme are you using and where did you get it from?
(If you don't know, please ask your Moodle administrator)

While waiting for one of the great people here like yourself to reply I looked into css myself and managed to edit the background boxes so that now they fit to match the size of the image. The problem is pretty much solved now except one issue. One of the images no matter which one I change or reupload still comes up as missing. Is this some kind of limit with hot potatoes itself?

Just like you when this problem appeared, I do not have the necessary experience of css to solve a similar problem.
I have managed to change the appearance of my jmatch sort exercise, but I would like to know how you saved the modified css so that it appears whenever the page is reloaded?
