Tried to send an email but failed message

Tried to send an email but failed message

Thank you for your reply, it helped me a lot. I allowed for others to create account on my Moodle site if they do not have it. I enabled email based self registration and I set up outgoing mail configuration, but I still get an error 'Tried to send you an email but failed!'. Any idea what could be the problem?

The error message 'Tried to send you an email but failed!' is most likely due to an incorrect SMTP server configuration in 'Outgoing mail configuration' in the Site administration. I suggest you search these forums and the documentation for some suggestions how to rectify this or ask your webhost.

I am using this https://docs.moodle.org/36/en/Email_setup_gmail and still have an error, that's why I am not sure what can be wrong.

Do the following under "Site administration":

1. Set "Debug messages" to "DEVELOPER"

2. Set "Display debug messages" to "YES"

3. Set "Debug email sending" to "YES"

When you now try, what info is shown?
