I am a teacher of several Moodle courses at my school. In the development of our courses, I have collaborated with colleagues over the past 5 years. Because we were new to this and everything was self taught, I believe we missed something in settings to better allow our question banks to be organized. (I think there might have been something that we should have asked our network/Moodle admins to set that we didn't.) Our question banks are not pure for our courses. I had three courses and when I go into the question banks, all the questions/categories for all the courses are there and there are questions from other teachers. They are somewhat grouped by course, but it is a royal mess to find things. The time spent finding the appropriate question category in the dropdown menus is ridiculous. I understand this is probably the result of something we did wrong at the beginning, but I am in search of a way to clean it up and prevent it from happening again. Ideally, when I am in a course, I only want to see MY questions/categories for that course. Any suggestions on the appropriate settings to make that work AND any suggestions on plugins/etc... to clean up the question banks? We have duplicate questions, old/unused questions, etc....
Another reason for wanting to clean this up is that I believe it is interfering with the backup and restore function. Early on, we were able to backup and restore quizzes without issue. We could even use the Sharing Cart Block to share quizzes between courses. For the past few years, however, it always errors out with a database error. contacted the sharing cart "owner" Don Hinkelman, but we never got it resolved.) I believe the issue is tied to our question bank, since the error received when using the sharing cart is:
When we try to do a course backup and then restore, it fails if we include quizzes/question banks. If we don't include quizzes/question banks, the restore works, pointing to the question banks as the issue. Question banks/categories can be exported in Moodle XML and restored, without issue.
Any help for myself or our network administrators would be greatly appreciated. Having to recreate resources, such as quizzes between courses, is time consuming and very frustrating.
Thank you very much for your time!
