Request to developers. Even if a bug or feature is part of the google summer of code, please do not discourage others from working on it. 3 years ago better functionality for images was assigned to gsoc. 3 people volunteered to work on this. 3 people were specifically told not to work on it. Now 3 years later it is still not done.
Gsoc is great in theory, but does no guarantee a finished product.
