Linking Fields in two Databases in Same Course

Linking Fields in two Databases in Same Course

We have two databases in two lessons of the same course. Some of the fields in the databases are common - same field names and same content.

  • We have autolink enabled in Site Adinistration->Plugins->Filters->Manage Filters.
  • While defining fields the autolink check box is ticked for the fields in both the databases.

Can we search for content which meets search criteria on common fields across the two databases?

Hi

If you mean the https://docs.moodle.org/en/Database_activity, you might want to ask the moderator to move your post to the Database forum https://moodle.org/mod/forum/view.php?id=3505.

Yes, it can. Feel free to add whatever content to your DatabaseS and Moodle Database filter will link to them automatically.

Actually, it is not about database number, you can have as many databases as you need in the same Moodle course. It is not about fields name either, you can name them anything, same or not.

It is about the actual 'word'. Moodle will filter the Word itself and link to it.

But, if you enter the same Word to 2 Databases, rather than display BOTH, it only displays the first one, the one exists earlier, not the WORD entered earlier, it is the DATABASE which was created earlier! The older Database is, the wiser, include any new-born Word in it. smile

Thank you William for your brief, yet complete response.

Our problem is that we wish to search for a word in multiple databases and view all the entries that contain that word. For ex., say Australia, is mentioned in two or more databases - one in history database and the other in the database for Geography and we want to search for Australia. We wish to see multiple entries which contain the word Australia in both databases; how can we do that?

Thank you for your help,

Regards,
