Is it necessary to upgrade moodle? Can you use moodle 3.0 forever?

Is that a philosophical question? How long is forever for you?

Bit more seriously: Are you still on Microsoft Windows 95 and Word 2.0? If not, what made you change?

I am not the expert on this question, but from my novice perspective, I think that "security" fixes on old versions stop after a certain point in time.  This would then make your Moodle vulnerable to being compromised.

Your question made me wonder, do you ever update your wardrobe?  thoughtful

No.

Moodle is continuously updated and bugs are fixed. So is the server software that it runs on. There’s a whole raft of dependencies.

If you dig your heels in eventually some part of your system will stop working or get hacked.

Keep your software up to date
