I have MDL 3.5 and would like to delete student's attempt of assignment with one uploaded file. For me, as a teacher, it is impossible, there is no feature for doing that. After logging as a student does not work as well because any atempt wants at least one stored file. I've tried to found any solutions but I am lost...
Welcome, to Moodle, but this question is really in the wrong place, it should be in the General Forum, not the Developers forum. Please go there and look at this post that is pinned to the top, that will help you direct your questions to the right place.
Logged in as a Teacher or Admin, you should not be able to remove a Student's work anyway, but what you can do is "Revert the submission to draft". Look at this Moodle Doc, it will explain how to do that.
In Moodle, things are not always as you think they should be. That can be frustrating at times, but there is a sound logic to why things are done the way they are in Moodle. Many times you are looking for something only to find it is there, right in front of you the whole time, all it requires is a slight change in perspective. Please go through the Moodle Docs when you want to try something, which can also be an adventure in frustration if you are not sure of what it is you are looking for, .
I am logged in as a site administrator and I have not been able to find a way to delete a submission. So it sounds like that option is not available to anyone. Can someone please confirm that? I found this post that says it can be done, but I can see no options to do it when logged in as the student or logged in with my site admin account.
We are using version 3.2.5.
What are you expecting to see? When you click on an assignment as site admin, and you click View all submissions, what do you see when you click the Edit arrow? Do you see the option to Edit submission?
I will move your post to the General Help forum. (Incidentally I checked out the forum you linked to in your post, and it does reference a potential bug with deleting submissions MDL-59577, which I have commented on.)
Isn't this post in the Assignment forum? Why move it to the General Forum?
I was hoping to see an option to delete the entire submission (Online Text and File submission). As a site admin we can delete a quiz attempt and a SCORM attempt, so I was expecting to find a comparable option with the assignment submissions. I can select the submission for the assignment, but the only actions available are:
- Lock submissions
- Unlock submissions
- Download selected submissions
- Revert the submission to draft status
Reverting the submission to draft status does allow the student and the admin to replace the file that was attached to the submission but it does not give the student or anyone else the option to delete the entire submission. I could find nothing in the site-wide settings for the assignment or in the settings for the individual assignment that would allow anyone to do this.
That is what is addressed by MDL-59577. There is no bug because it is working as designed. I can understand why it was designed like that. However, I don't understand why there is not a "Delete submission" option in the list above like we see in the quiz module and the SCORM module. People make mistakes and need to delete things sometimes.
Hello Rod. This thread is better in the assignment forum, I agree. I believe that tracker issue IS a bug or rather, a regression, because in 2.7 a new capability was added to give to teachers with the purpose of allowing them to edit or delete submissions. https://docs.moodle.org/en/Capabilities/mod/assign:editothersubmission For online text this works OK because you can delete the text, but for submitted files it no longer works as it should - I think - because of a fix to a different problem, as outlined in the tracker issue. /MDL-59577
There never was a "Delete submission" option, but there is an Edit submission option (if the person has that capability). It does seem now, however, that when using this to delete a submitted file, it is then no longer possible to save the assignment.
sure we can EDIT students' attempt, that's the true. BUT, you CANNOT completely delete an attempt with ALL files submitted as a solution! I can manually delete files, but at least ONE must remain in the attempt!
I have tried to allow capability "editothersubmission", but without success...
OK, I've read this. But I did not see solution there
Correct Zdenek. There is no solution if you want to delete the entire submission when it is a combination of online text and files. That appears to be confirmed. We will need to comment on the tracker issues if we want to see a solution.
Thank you for the explanation Mary. It was very helpful. I just read your latest comment in MDL-59577. I also see that it is a closed issue and not assigned to anyone. I don't see any linked issues and no reference to any other open issues. Do the developers read these issues once they are closed? Is there another issue related to this that we can comment on or vote for the fix or new feature?
