Source code displayed in some text created by editor

It appears that when text is copied and pasted from MS Word into the HTML editor in Moodle, then when that text is viewed in IE some source code shows up.  See the attached screenshot (sourcecoderevealedss.gif) for an example.

We didn't actually catch this until one of our instructors pointed it out, since no one in our office ever uses IE -- we're almost exclusively a Firefox shop.

Again, this affects text that was formatted in MS Word and then pasted into the HTML editor.

Has anyone encountered this issue before?  Or are we just weird?

This one is an old chestnut. There are two functions in the HTML editor which attempt to strip out the Word specific HTML: if you paste the Word text into the HTML editor window with CTRL-V or you can use the "Clean Word HTML" button in the top row toolbar.

However, it usually still leaves a lot of rubbish in there. I think using the HTML Tidy program is the best way to clean it up.

It is a real headache working with MS Word text in the HTML Editor.  Sometimes it is easier just to upload it as a webpage resource (make it open in a bottom frame) or just bypass the Word altogether.

Other might have other suggestions,
