So I am following this guide:

But at step 2:
The instructions state there will be a prompt for a password, but I didn't get any prompt.
I continued up to step 6 with no problems exept now they need a password from me.
What can I do please?
EDIT: I have even uninstalled and reinstalled MYSQL with new password thinking that did the trick. It didn't.
Have you got a root password for mysql? You could try
sudo mysql_secure_installationThat prompts you for the root password which could be blank. Once mysql is set up, continue running with the script.
I find a cheap new vps the best way to install - because you start with a blank slate, the instructions just work. Once youare installing on top of things, things tend to get more complicated.

I solved the issue by deleting mysql cli and mysql server and reinstalling manually, then adding a password.
