Course Deletion and User Data

I’m hoping someone can help me.  We are running 3.5 and it was asked just recently, “if we delete a course, will it retain the users data (particularly quiz grades and certificates earn’t etc.)?


Otherwise are we better to simply hide the course and move it into a hidden category like an archive area?

If you delete the course, it is gone.  There are no activities in existence to remember grades.  Hide the course or put it in a hidden category.  Or, I suppose, you could do a full backup and save it somewhere then delete the course.  If you need the user data later, you could restore the backup.  But I wouldn't.
