hi,

We are running a moodle 3.1 that will soon be upgrade to 3.5.

With this update we would like to change our server which is not powerful enough. Not being tech savvy when it comes to servers, i need another pair of eyes.

Currently, we have a 250 Go HDD with 8Go RAM and a 4core CPU. It runs with debian 8 and the DB is a PostgreSQL.

We have some courses that requires 500 concurrents users just for this course. and we forsee 1000 concurrent users for some big courses that will open in some month (with maybe 500 doing quizz).

I would like to ask for the following servers :

Web server :

  • 1 To SCSI Disk
  • 12 Go of RAM
  • A 2Ghz dual core CPU

A load balance for the web server :

the actual server we have (250 Go disk, 8Go RAM and a 4 core CPU)

A SQl server :

  • 24Go Ram
  • 500 Go disk
  • A 2Ghz Dual-core CPU.

I think this estimation is okay but i would like to have your opinion on what i could change.

Thanks a lot !

If you only have one web server you wont be needing a load balancer

Also for 500 concurrent quiz users, you will need considerably more POWER smile

Either what you have stated but x 4 with a load balancer or a single web with 256GB of Ram, 4 x zeno quads and a separate Redis cache server
