The essentials of the quiz/question types have not changed wildly for a few years so it is a good place to start. I strongly recommend you get an editor/IDE that has an intellisense type feature that shows you what methods are available for any classes. Also consider the core and 3rd party question types as your documentation. Look at the code from JM Vedrine and Gordon Bateson for ideas.
