We have a problem in our moodle 3.5 installation. Before our upgrade to 3.5 we had messaging disabled. But teachers could still contact students in the course via course administration/users/enrolled users/ Participants and chose send a message. Although messaging was disabled, an email was sent to the specific student. After the upgrade to 3.5 this doesn´t work anymore. Is it possible to bring this email-solution back to work - without enabling messaging?

Hello,
We have exactly the same problem. Our teachers have used the old messaging (deabled) system to send mails. Now, this is not working in 3.5.
Did you find a solution or explication in changelog since this summer?

Hi,

we are experiencing the same issue after we updated our installation from 3.3 to 3.5.
Is there any solution yet or should we file this as a bug in the tracker?

Thanks to the original work by Nicholas Dunand I updated the patches to reintroduce this lost functionality to the latest version of Moodle. Please vote it up if you want it included so it can get some attention from the Moodle developers.
Also, if anyone is inclined to do some peer review/testing that would really help in pushing this along the integration process.
