Problems with inserting Videos

Hello,

I am using Moodle version 3.5 and I am having some difficulties inserting basic videos  when I create a course.

Whenever I tried to insert a video it is taking a long time  to load and not working at all.

Inserting via file upload or a link via YouTube.

I have tried everything.. Is there a plugin that I am supposed to create?

Kind Regards,

Amba

Hello Dave

The video files are standard Mp4’s. The Largest is 112mb and there are 8 in total.

The videos were converted from a DVD, we still have the DVD.

We would like to present the videos through the course in Moodle.

For your reference, the route to the videos is:

Amba, you forgot to add the URL.

I use many mp4 videos in my courses, but they are on a university video server.  So in my Moodle, I simply link to them.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for your reply. Do you have any issues with copy right?

We saw that if we put the videos using the URL of youtube then its fine but we are worried that we will issues with most videos.

No, no real problems with copyright because I produce most of my own videos.  But I do understand your question.  If you do not own a video, and if the video is copyrighted by another organization, then yes (of course) you need to be concerned about copyright.

Sure, there are people (teachers) around the world who are probably using some of my copyrighted materials, but I don't spend my time trying to "catch" them.  However, if I knew that another university was using my videos and they had $$$ at their disposal, I might notify them.

Is the upload limit too low?

The other option, and the one I would use, is as suggested by Rick - use a video server and link it.

Hope this helps

Dave

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your reply, would be more specific which type of server?

I have never been able to find out any of the specifications to my university's video server.  You know, these IT folks seem to like to keep secrets.

All that I can tell you is that it seems as solid as a rock!  It always works.

Do these videos play on their own? I mean using a player? like Windows Media Player?

could possibly be, the codecs you used for conversion arent compatible with multimedia extensions of web browser. Try uploading the smallest video to youtube, let their servers convert the video in their own MP4 format, download it from youtube and try uploading that videos and see if it runs.

Good point, Usman.  What I tried was to just drag and drop one of my mp4 files from my filesystem to my browser, and it played.  So Amba could try the same thing and see what happens.
