Integrated (Moodle forum( and non integrated (Facebook etc) socially mediated learning

Dear Colleagues,

I'm currently finding very limited if any, studies into comparative usage and outcomes for students using socially mediated tools when comparing integrated versus noj integrated tools ) ie  whether they learn via  integrated (Moodle forum messaging wikis etc) or they learn using VLEs but using non-integrated social learning i.e. learning through Facebook etc.

I seem to find very few comparative studies on the two approaches students take?

Any thoughts? Bueller?

Dom

It seems to me that Stephen Downes might have something for you. He's a big fan of "personal" learning environments, often aggregated from multiple resources, rather than integrated LMS/VLE. Try this as a start: https://www.downes.ca/presentation/487
