Copy Theme help!!

I am a complete newbie to moodle and i am having a lot of trouble getting started , I have just been given an empty moodle site by our local education board and I have to build it up for our high school, but i am struggling to work out how you edit the site aesthetically, i was hoping to find a step by step guide but i have had no joy so far, maybe i am overlooking a vital link on the website!

I realise now that I need to copy a theme to create you own but how do you do this and how do i get to the files i want to edit once i have? The site is hosted by the education board on their server will this make a difference?

Any help at all will be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi Deborah,

You will need to have access to the files on the server to create a modified theme, or at the very least you will need access to the server at some point to upload the modified theme files to your site. Of course, someone else can do this for you (I suspect this option may be the only one open to you owing to your hosting arrangements).

You may find it easier to install a copy of Moodle on a local PC or laptop and undertake your devt. work there, uploading the new theme when finished.

On the downloads page at Moodle.org you will find a package which will allow you to create a local install with relative ease.

I have a number of free themes at http://classroomrevolution.com under Free Themes in the left side menu.  You can view the themes in action at our theme gallery site http://themes.classroomrevolution.com

Himmat Singh also has a number of free themes at http://www.ballisticlearning.biz/moodlethemes/
