I had raised a query earlier asking whether Windows OS is supported and was told that it is.
Current query: Are older versions of Windows like 2003 & 2008 supported?
Reason is that we have Windows 2008 now and want to install moodle in the same.I checked in the FAQs (https://docs.moodle.org/34/en/Performance_recommendations#Operating_System)but did not find an answer.Kindly advice.
There is no requirement for a specific version Microsoft Windows (or other OSes). Moodle's server requirements are in terms of the minimum PHP version and database software version, so your OS must be capable of running these.
PHP 7.0 requires the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 which requires at least Windows Server 2003 so this should work. You'll need to check the OS requirements for whichever database you're intending to use but MySQL 5.5 should run on this version of Windows too.
Thanks a lot. We'l work on the same.Shall keep the forum posted on the result.
You are walking a blind alley along those outdated Windows server versions!
One way out would be virtualization. If you can get a decent virtualization environment running, you can even venture in to Linux in a VM. (You must have noticed the first line in https://docs.moodle.org/en/Performance_recommendations#Operating_System. ) On moodle.org you'll have an added advantage, that the vast majority of the helpers use Linux.
Its just that we have limitations on hardware/software and hence will have to limit ourselves for now. However,we have noted down your valuable observation and shall act on the same at the first available opportunity.
