I edited the config.php and tried using the replace tool, but with no success.

You need to just direct your webserver default to /moodle and then edit the config.php file, run the replace on the database and you should be good to go.
In Apache, it is a matter of editing your default site config file (under available_sites). It probably directs to /var/www - just direct it to var/www/moodle.
That is in a linux setup.

I thought that was maybe the case but just in case you needed the solution and he didn't provide it....
