I have a course with two assessed components, both marked using a scale with twelve points. If my understanding is correct, this means the following boundaries if you mark in points and want the conversion (tested it with a TurnItIn assignment and seems to be working fine):
(scale points are on the left, the marks carried forward if you have weighted means of grades as a calculation in the middle, and the mark ranges that will give you this scale point in the right).
Now, I want the course total to be displayed in a scale with four points; again, from testing and understanding the following mappings hold:
(scale points, point carried forward in calculations and marks range).
What I am trying to understand is how the final mark will be calculated if, let's say, I assign 0.5 weight to both initial assignments marked on the twelve-point scale and then set the display type for course total to real and have the four-point scale selected.
My assumption is:
i) Moodle looks at the mark of assignment 1 on the twelve-point scale and the points carried forward (if that is nine, then the points carried forward is 72.73 and the weight is 50% so it will contribute about 36% for the final mark, which is a two);
ii) If the same is the case for the second assignment, this will give us another two on the four-point scale;
iii) So, we are aggregating two twos with a weight of 50% for each of them and this gives us a two.
Am I right, partially right or completely wrong? Please help as I am completely lost in how the calculations work.
